Feeling Drained After Being Around People? Try This

Do you feel exhausted after spending time with others?

Like you’re carrying emotions that aren’t yours?

Like everyone else’s energy is still clinging to you, even hours later?

You might be absorbing energetic connections without realising it.

And there’s a simple grounding meditation that can help you come home to yourself.

Why This Happens

When we interact with people, whether in person, over the phone, or even through a screen, we create subtle energetic connections called psychic ties. This is completely natural. We all form these connections daily.

For most people, these ties dissolve naturally without any conscious effort. But for empaths and highly sensitive people, these connections can linger.

Because empaths tend to have more open, receptive energy fields, they absorb emotions, thoughts, and energy from others like a sponge. This is why you might feel drained after social situations, even positive ones. Or find yourself still processing someone else’s problems hours after the conversation ended.

This isn’t a flaw. It’s simply how your system works.

The good news? A simple daily clearing practice can help you return to your own energy and feel more like yourself again.

A Grounding Meditation to Return to Your Own Energy

The practice I’m about to share combines four elements that work together to clear your field and bring you back to centre.

Grounding

Grounding brings you back to the present moment. It anchors your energy so you’re not floating through your day, absorbing everything around you.

When you’re grounded, you feel:
Present. Steady. Less reactive.

Like you can finally tell the difference between what’s yours and what belongs to someone else.

Energy Clearing

Using white light visualisation – a high-vibrational cosmic energy,  you can cleanse your energy field of what you’ve picked up from others throughout your day.

Think of it as taking a spiritual shower.

You can even practice this during your physical shower, letting the water symbolically wash away the day’s accumulated energy.

Releasing Psychic Ties

Gently cutting or dissolving the energetic cords formed throughout the day allows you to return fully to your own energy.

This isn’t about disconnecting from people you love or care about. It’s about releasing the energetic residue that keeps you entangled in other people’s emotional states.

Protection

Finally, visualising a golden light bubble around you sets an energetic boundary.

It creates a protective shield that helps you maintain your own space while still engaging with the world. Some people also like to place a symbolic object, like a rose or flower, at the outer edge of their aura to catch energy before it enters their field.

This practice takes just a few minutes. And with repetition, it becomes second nature.

Once you learn the steps, you can complete it in seconds whenever you need it.

I’ve been using a version of this practice for years, especially at night before bed. It’s become as natural as brushing my teeth. And it’s made a real difference in how I move through my days.

I’ve created a grounding meditation that walks you through each of these steps. You can listen to it daily until the process becomes natural, and then adapt it to whatever feels right for you.

When to Use This Grounding Meditation

Daily maintenance

I recommend practicing this every evening before bed. It’s a beautiful way to release the day and clear your energy for rest.

Morning grounding

Mornings are also ideal for the grounding and protection elements – setting your energy before you engage with the day.

After social situations

Use it after work, social events, or any interaction that left you feeling drained or “off.”

Whenever you feel ungrounded

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or not quite like yourself, this practice can help you return to centre in just a few minutes.

What This Practice Teaches You Over Time

With regular practice, you’ll likely notice:

  • You feel more present in your own body and less “in your head.”
  • You’re less affected by other people’s moods or energy.
  • You recover more quickly after social interactions.
  • You have clearer boundaries and a stronger sense of what’s yours and what isn’t.

Don’t worry if visualisation doesn’t come easily. Your intention is what creates the shift.

You don’t need to see perfect images in your mind. Simply following the steps and trusting the process is enough.

This grounding meditation gets faster and more natural over time. What feels like a full meditation at first will eventually become a quick energetic reset you can do in seconds.

Building the Habit

The easiest way to make this practice stick is to pair it with something you already do:

In the shower

Let the water washing over you symbolise the energetic clearing.

Before bed

Make it part of your wind-down routine, right before you turn off the lights.

In nature

If you walk outside daily, use those few minutes to ground and clear.

Morning ritual

Combine it with your coffee or tea, or right after you wake up.

This grounding meditation becomes easier with practice. Start small. Even 2 minutes makes a difference. The consistency matters more than the length.
